The quality standards for economy heating oil are defined by DIN EN 51603-1. However, heating oil, when stored, is subject to natural deterioration processes fostered by various factors, e.g. heat, light, oxygen contact, interconnection with metal, chemical compounds as well as microorganisms. As a result, residues emerge  that cling to the tank's bottom and walls.
The generation of condensed water leads to pitting corrosion with steel tanks. The unavoidable consequence is leakage. 

For maintaining trouble-free operation of your heating installation, it is necessary to run tank cleanings periodically. Such a cleaning is recommended depending on the tank's construction type as well as its actual condition.

With a tank cleaning, sediments and water are removed from the tank. This prevents soiled heating oil from reaching the oil burner through the suction line.

The right time for a tank cleaning has arrived when there is only a small remainder of heating oil left in the tank.
